Solo exhibition
Marino Marini Museum, Florence, Italy – 3 October – 31 December, 2019
The immersive exhibition-installation is the result of an extended collaboration with twenty-four Tuscan craftsmen. Each artisan, working with a primary material such as ceramics, iron, bronze, wood, fabric, or feathers, collaborated with Avital to create an infinite chorus of superhuman melody through 60 original Sonic Masks.
“The idea that the mask coincides with the person, that is, that the ‘per-sona’ is simply a function of the mask, brings us even closer to Avital’s work, whose works in this exhibition, archetypal and frightening faces in their archaic, primordial and therefore dreadful nature, are fitted with an amplifier to sound and emit sounds so dense that they arouse further disorientation, as if we were standing before the auroral manifestation of the human being.”
